Thinking

On The

Right Things

One thing is extremely clear from Scripture that doesn’t seem to be translating well into the lives of many Christians that I meet. There is the BEDROCK PRINCIPLE that Christians are supposed to be walking in peace, full of peace, and firmly connected to the God of peace.

I say this because so many Christians that I talk to are stressed out and anxious, full of uncertainty and fear about the future. But all of this stress and anxiety doesn’t belong in a Christian’s life. So why is there such a prevalent disconnect going on in the lives of modern Christians?

I could chalk it up to a lack of knowledge about the truth, but in actuality, this is not what I am finding when I am speaking to most Christians who are stressing out.

When I share Scripture with them that shows them the certainty and reality of their current state of peace, nearly every person I talk to will tell me that they have heard these Scriptures before. And yet they aren’t experiencing peace. Instead, they are experiencing anxiety, worry, and fear.

In my evangelism ministry, I have pondered this dilemma quite a bit because the subject of the lack of peace comes up frequently when I am interacting with people who tell me that they are born-again Christians.

Now I don’t have my head in the sand. I know as well as anybody that our present society has gone kerplooie and that it isn’t likely to improve. In fact, if I wasn’t a Christian, I would be downright terrified!!

Government conspiracies. Meat grown in laboratories. Diseases grown in laboratories. Raging inflation. Laws being passed that are blatantly unconstitutional and hostile toward conservative lifestyles. Yes, there are plenty of off the charts shenanigans going on.

If I wasn’t a Christian I would be so terrified that I think that I would be making provisions to stock up a secret mountain bunker somewhere. What is happening in the modern world certainly has all the elements of a coming global catastrophy.

But Christians shouldn’t be stressed about it. And yet, they ARE. Why is this, and what can they do to prevent this disconnect that is so prevalent?

God’s perfect will for every Christian is that they are experiencing His perfect peace ALL THE TIME. In fact, peace is a fruit (download) of the Holy Spirit that is installed into them at the moment that they are born-again and become a new creation. And yet, most Christians don’t feel that they have it.

And THIS passage holds the key as to why so few Christians are actually experiencing this peace. It is because of the things that they are THINKING about.

It is impossible to consume the narrative of the mainstream media and social media and not have the wrong things go into your heart and mind. Things that will take your focus off the sure promises of God and place it in the uncertainty of the world.

And yet, our society is connected to this distressing narrative nearly 24/7. But few Christians are more connected to the Bible than they are to their social media accounts.

And so they don’t actually focus on the things we ought to be focusing on. In their practical experience of walking out their faith, they have filled their lives with narrative that assaults their faith in a constant barrage of the negativity that the world supplies them with.

When Christians are stressed out and not experiencing peace, it is always self-inflicted. They have been ingesting the wrong narrative.

And they truly have become what they ate. If you eat junk food all the time, it will make you sick. And the same thing applies to your heart and mind. If you consume the world’s narrative all the time, you will experience a sick Christian life.

I bet you can figure out how to fix this problem without me even having to point it out.
