Surviving Life’s Disasters

Have you ever had a disaster in your life? Yeah, me too. Have you ever had a disaster in your life that was caused by someone else, but their actions affected you? Yup. Me too.
Paul was in the process of a shipwreck when he said this verse. A shipwreck that was happening because someone hadn’t taken his advice. But here he was stuck in the middle of it, even though he knew very well that his present course of action was highly risky.
But he didn’t have control over his present course of action. And the experience, caused by someone else, was so bad that there was one point in which he thought he might not survive it.
But then he latched onto a promise of God!
If you read on in this passage, he got a visit from an angel. And the angel simply reminded him of a promise that he already had. He was going to testify about Jesus in Rome.
And even though he was right in the middle of the worst storm of his life, nothing had changed in regards to God’s promise.
His eyes saw the storm and the impending disaster. God just used the angel to remind him that His promises always outweigh what our five senses are experiencing.
God still sends angels sometimes. But even more common nowadays is that He will use His Word to remind you of His promises to you.
Does God ever break a promise? In the middle of your shipwreck you might be tempted to listen to the lie that He has forgotten His promises to you and that the storm is taking precedence. That would be a boldfaced lie about God!
It’s important to remember that having a promise from God doesn’t mean that storms won’t come. But what it does mean is that the storms can never get the better of you if you won’t stop believing His promises.
Paul made it through the shipwreck. The promise of God proved to be true.
Are you going through a seeming disaster that your eyes are telling you that you might not survive?
Bottom line: The storm is a lie that is trying to convince you that God isn’t faithful. Just call it the lie that it is and keep moving forward!
There is still a Rome experience in your future and God’s promise will take you there. He doesn’t forget. And He has the power to bring you through that storm!
